About Me

RED CARPET SERIES. Ladies on the red carpet.
I am inspired by Klimpt, Bonnard, Erté, and others
Originally red carpets were symbols of prestige and royalty. Red carpet refers to honor and ceremony afforded to important people when it is laid out for dignitaries to walk on. Rolling out the red carpet for someone means giving them special treatment. For me it is also a symbol of the feminine—blood, fertility, creation, sacrifice, strength, beauty. Red signifies our boldness, strength, and power.
While it can be a symbol of women being exploited for their glamor and beauty, or a platform for women to model fashionable clothes, the red carpet can also be a symbol of pride in female success and a means of expression and creativity. There can be humility and shyness or a bold, flamboyant display and swagger of confidence, provocative and individualistic, that turns heads. Red carpet signifies celebrity. Celebrate WOMEN!

Studio J 2309 Thornton Road, Austin, Texas
My studio is in the complex of Thornton Road Studios in Austin, Texas. I paint in acrylics and watercolors. I also sometimes do collage. I knit scarves from jewel ladder yarns and make earrings out of anodized aluminum rings with niobium hooks.
